Adoptions
Animals can now be adopted from Animal Services. Though all animals are held for a certain amount of time in order for an owner to reclaim them, an adoption application can be accepted on any animal being held at Animal Services.
Must be 18 or over to adopt an animal.
Our adoption fee is $40, which includes basic vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, deworming, a microchip, and a City license. Canines are heartworm tested, and felines are feline leukemia tested.
The adopter is responsible for also having the animal spayed/neutered at the veterinarian of their choice as well as obtaining a rabies vaccination. The spay/neuter surgery is prepaid and scheduled at the adopter's chosen veterinary clinic.
All animals in our shelter can be seen at 24Pet Connect. Animals currently being held in our adoption program are labeled as "Adoptable".
Adoption Guidelines
(Animals with health or behavior issues may not become available for adoption.)
APPLICATION: Fill out an application and turn it in. Make sure you are ready for the commitment of a new pet, and everyone in the household is ready as well.
FENCE CHECK: If you reside within the city limits of Wichita Falls, we will put in a request for a FENCE CHECK with Animal Control. When the fence check is done, we will call you and let you know if the fence check passed or did not pass and the reason why. (No Fence Check required for cat adoption)
CURRENT ANIMALS YOU OWN: All animals, dogs, and cats, indoor or outdoor living at the address listed on the adoption application, must be spayed/neutered, and current on rabies vaccinations and city licenses prior to the applicant being approved for adoption.
PRE-PAID SPAY/NEUTER AND RABIES VACCINE: Prior to completion of the adoption, you will need to go to your Veterinarian and pre-pay for the spay/neuter of the animal you are adopting. Animal Services will drop the pet off at the appointment, and you will pick them up after their surgery. Rabies vaccination is also due at this time. You may choose a Veterinarian up to 30 miles outside the city limits of Wichita Falls, a fee will be charged for delivery outside the city limits.
Animals too young to be spayed/neutered at the time of adoption will still require the Pre-paid receipt from your Veterinarian for the spay/neuter with an appointment made within 90 days of adoption.
