The Health and Wellness Division offers an array of primary and preventive services. The scope of services includes care of the individual through clinical services as well as disease prevention and health promotion directed toward the community as a whole.

INFECTIOUS DISEASE SURVEILLANCE AND REPORTING Program services are initiated upon receiving a report of a suspected or diagnosed case of a disease classified as a "Reportable Communicable Disease" or "Notifiable Condition." A listing of the Reportable Diseases/Injuries in Texas is available. | |
TOBACCO CESSATION CLASSES The Health Promotions Program offers the American Cancer Society's Fresh Start smoking cessation classes for adults wishing to quit using tobacco products. EDUCATION Speakers can present programs on numerous disease/injury prevention and health promotion topics. Continuing Health Education programs are offered on Public Health topics of interest to other area health professionals. | |
DIABETES MANAGEMENT AND HEALTHY LIVING CLASSES Click the Banners for more info! These FREE education classes are for individuals who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. They are held once a week for six weeks and are taught by trained Health Educators using a licensed Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) curriculum. Topics include: · Understanding the Human Body · Risk Factors · Blood Glucose Monitoring · Physical Activity · Diabetes Meal Planning · Diabetes Complications · Medications and Healthcare Team · Stress Management We also have FREE healthy living classes for individuals who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. They are held once a week for twelve weeks and are focused on active lifestyle changes in order to prevent and/or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. A Certified Lifestyle Coach teaches individuals to identify changes they can make in their personal diet and activity level that will result in a healthier weight, more nutritious diet, and increased level of regular physical activity. CHRONIC DISEASE PREVENTION PROGRAM The Chronic Disease Prevention Program focuses on educating the public on the prevention of chronic diseases, such as obesity and diabetes, by focusing on nutrition, portion control, the role of exercise, and chronic disease management.
