Water Pollution

PROGRAMS

The Water Pollution Section of the Laboratory/Water Pollution Division oversees three major programs:

  1. The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Industrial Wastewater Pretreatment Program which includes the sampling and inspection of Wichita Falls industries and businesses for compliance with local, state, and federal water pollution regulations, the issuance of Industrial Wastewater Permits to EPA Categorical and Significant Industries, investigation of complaints regarding improper disposal of industrial wastes, and the licensing and inspection of Liquid Waste Haulers.

For your convenience, a copy of the Industrial Pretreatment Program Ordinance (City of Wichita Falls Ordinance 25-2002), is available online in Adobe Acrobat Reader format. Additionally, the Industrial Pretreatment Program Questionnaires are also available online. If you are a Noncategorical Industry, then you can download that questionnaire in Adobe Acrobat Reader format. If you are a Categorical Industry, then you can download that questionnaire. If you are unsure which category of industrial discharger you are, please contact our office at 940-761-7670 or 940-761-7477, and we will be more than happy to assist you. It is free of charge if you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  2. The City of Wichita Falls Grease Trap program, governed by City of Wichita Falls Ordinance 62-2004, requires that all food service establishments, food preparation facilities, and other facilities that cook and serve food must have installed grease interceptors to discharge into the City’s sewage system. This division is charged with inspecting, permitting, and monitoring these facilities and this program. For information, please contact our office at 940-761-7820.
  3. The inspection and permitting of Liquid Waste Hauling vehicles that utilize the City’s Public Owned Treatment Works (Sewer Plant) to discharge their loads of waste. The division inspects each truck before permitting for leaks, or other factors that could cause spillage or damage to city streets or other property. If they pass this inspection, they can haul liquid waste within the city limits of Wichita Falls. It is illegal to haul any liquid waste within the City without a permit issued by this division. For information, please contact our office at 940-761-7820.
