Mosquito Control Chemicals
The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District uses Integrated Mosquito Management Principles including chemical control of mosquitoes. Below you can click through the different life stages of the mosquito (there are no chemicals to treat the mosquito eggs) to find the product labels and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) sheets for the various chemicals that are used.
Mosquito larvicides can come in many different forms with different active ingredients. Many use bacteria found in soil, while others may use an insect growth regulator. Most larvicides are designed to be ingested by the mosquito larva. These chemicals then either kill the larva outright or prevent the mosquito from molting and becoming an adult mosquito. These chemicals can be found in various formulations including granules, dunks, and water soluble packets.

Since mosquito pupa do not feed the chemicals used to target them have to take that into account. Most pupicides work by effecting the surface tension of water thus preventing the pupa from breathing air. These chemicals are applied using a hand sprayer.
Spraying for adult mosquitoes is the most expensive and least effective means of treating for mosquitoes but once adult mosquitos have emerged it is the only way to combat them. The Health District keeps a variety of mosquito control chemicals on hand in order to spray a wide variety of locations and so that we can rotate through chemical classes to combat resistance. Some spray chemicals are ready to use and others must be diluted with water or oil. We spray for adult mosquitoes using truck mounted ULV sprayers.
