Waiting List for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Formerly Section 8)
In order to qualify for the City of Wichita Falls Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8), your name must be placed on a waiting list. You may come to 1300 7th street, Room 301 in the Memorial Auditorium on any Tuesday between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm to complete a written application. The approximate wait time is 24 months, depending on our funding levels. Unfortunately, we don’t have emergency assistance available.
If you are handicapped or a disabled person, you may now use the Sixth or Seventh Street entrances. Wheelchair or handicapped accessibility, ramp and elevators are located at the Northeast parking lot off Sixth Street and a wheelchair or handicapped accessible ramp is now available at the Seventh Street entrance at the front of the Auditorium. The City can provide Spanish language interpreters and deaf interpreters or any other special needs to any person requesting a special service with at least a 72-hour notice. Eligible Income Limits
Your total gross annual income must be at or below 50% of the Wichita Falls Area Median Income (AMI). Access the Eligibility Incomes Spreadsheet to see qualifications.
You must call the Housing Office and renew your application every 90 days to remain active on the waiting list. If you fail to call and renew your application, your name will be removed from the waiting list and you must re-apply.
When you apply you will be required to list your mailing address on the application. To change a mailing address on an application, you must come to the Housing Office and, in writing, fill out a change of address form. If you fail to fill out a change of address form, you will not receive the notification to attend a Housing Pre-Certification meeting and you will be dropped from our waiting list.
When you apply, you will be required to list all family members in your household. You will need to know all the social security numbers and dates of birth for all family members that will be listed on your application. To make changes to family members on a current application you must come to the Housing Office and, in writing, fill out a change of household form.
